December 2016

This holiday season flew by, and though we were not able to do all that we had planned due to some unexpected occurrences with Phoenix’s treatment, we are so thankful for the magic of the season and our time spent together.

One day after work, we decided to go to a local pizza place for dinner.  We had such a nice time and right when we got home, Santa visited our neighborhood on the fire truck!  Shiloh and Phoenix were SO excited to see Santa, and it was such an added bonus that he was on a fire truck!  Such a simple evening that turned out to be one of our favorite memories from this Winter.

Shiloh and one of her friends (the daughter of my best friend from childhood) have been begging us to have a “Wonder Woman Party” for months, and we were finally able to make it happen!  We met Angelica and her family at a restaurant for pancakes and costumes.  It was so fun!

I took Shiloh and Phoenix to the mall to walk around and see all of the decorations.  We waved to Santa, but decided the line was too long to wait and sit on his lap.

That afternoon, Phoenix woke up from his nap with a fever.  We ended up going to the ER, and were admitted for many days of antibiotics, tests, and an emergency treatment.  These tests resulted in some terrifying news for our family, which I wrote an update about here.  For now we are trying to stay positive and calm.

The day after Christmas, we went out to celebrate with Ben’s family at his parent’s newly built cabin near Canyon Lake.  We were SO thankful that Phoenix was feeling pretty good most of the day, so we were able to spend some time celebrating with family.

The week after Christmas, Phoenix continued to feel better and better.  We had such a nice week at home: playing with all of the new toys, visits from my sister and brother-in-law, and just really cherishing our time at home together.

The last weekend of the year, my younger sister and her family came to Texas to celebrate the holidays with us all.  Shiloh was able to spend some time with everyone at their resort in San Antonio, while Phoenix enjoyed some quiet attention from Ben and I at home.

During the day on New Year Eve, the family all came to our house to celebrate Christmas and spend some time together.  We weren’t sure if this would be able to happen, but since Phoenix was feeling so good we were happy to have everyone over to celebrate.  The cousins love playing together, and we all enjoyed the day so much.

What a month of super highs and unbelievable lows, but I really am thankful .  I can’t believe that I am so lucky to be the mother of these two children, and to share my life with Ben and all of our family and friends.  I am hopeful that the next months bring good health to Phoenix, and continued happiness for us all.
